As with potential jail and license suspensions, the amount of a person's fine for a DUI conviction varies depending on BAC level, fact of refusal and prior DUI history. The ranges are defined in the Washington DUI Sentencing Grid.
A fine consists not only of the penalty that is required by statute for the violation, but also of the various costs, fees, assessments and services required by the state, county, city prosecutors and probation offices. What appears as a $350 fine can soon become $1500 when all of the aditional costs are added. It will vary from court to court and between judges. Most courts will allow you to pay them directly within 30 days of sentencing or will allow you to set up a payment plan with an outside credit managemnt agency. Unpaid fines will either be placed in collections, be the cause of a probation violation meaning addition sanctions, or both.
