Should I obtain an alcohol/drug evaluation? When?
In virtually every DUI case, the court will at some time require the defendant to obtain an alcohol or drug evaluation. Therefore we always advise our clients to complete one as soon as possible. Still, you should consult with a DUI attorney before undergoing this process. Where you go for the evaluation and what you say can have tremendous repercussions.
Will it look good to a judge if I just start going to AA meetings?
If you believe that you have a problem with alcohol and want to start going to AA meetings, then by all means you should. AA is not a one size fits all program however. If you do not suffer from alcoholism, AA is not for you. Further, attending AA may lead a treatment agency or court to believe that you do suffer from alcoholism, at which time they will treat you like an alcoholic.
