Alcohol Treatment During COVID-19 State of Emergency

March 24, 2020 by Tim Milios

During the COVID-19 State of Emergency, the Washington State Secretary of Health has waived state statutory requirements that all substance use disorder services be provided in person. Accordingly, treatment agencies are temporarily authorized to conduct group and individual treatment sessions online via Skype, Facetime, Zoom and other such digital means. This also means that during the state of emergency, Alcohol and Drug Information Schools can be conducted online as well and that courts should be required to accept proof of ADIS classes performed online. However, before signing up and completing an online ADIS class, you will still want to make sure that the agency is following the provision in the emergency order allowing for “telehealth group therapy or ADIS services.” It is possible that some online ADIS offerings may not qualify.

If you have questions, feel free to contact us. We are here to help during this difficult and confusing time.
